retrofitting R1150 cylinders to the Lizard

Post by twodear »

A quick search did not bring forth information regarding anyone trying to retrofit R1150 cylinders to the R1100S.

Has anyone tried this or know of some one who has? I'm wondering if it is possible and whether it would be worth the effort to gain horsepower.
If enough is enough and more is better than too much should be just about right.

I know someone on Pelican has done this. SJBMW sell a kit.

You need to do a lot of home work, the SJ kit is stock BM stuff,BBP is another option depending on what, and how far you want to go,there are other options if you trawl the net.

Thanks Julian and Winger. Pelican had some very informative discussion on this subject and the SJBMW site cleared up other questions. Spot on! 1150 barrels and cams are in the future for the Lizard.

...I forgot his name, but he made me an offer about a year back for 'some' go faster parts for the 1100S I had at that time...

...1150 cylinders + pistons, cams, valves, heads, chip, etc.etc...

...for more than 4.300 Euros...
...a lot of money I think...

...sold the 1100 ; laid 4000 Euros on the table, and got the 1200...
...in the end I think that was the better deal...
Have a nice day !

…hmmm ; don’t know if I miss the (or a) point…
…twodear’s question was if it was worth the effort to gain horsepower…

…well ; IM-humble-O you need to go very far if you want to morph your 1100 into something with a lot of horsepower…
…I almost took the plunge ; but than I realized that it would cost me a lot of money, and I was wondering if the clutch, crank, drive shaft, etc.etc could cope with the power increase…

…for spending less money I know own a bike that’s 3 years newer, and hopefully with an engine, and drive shaft that can keep up with the (maybe ?) 122hp…

…a ‘few’ years ago I did a ‘two-times-Mini-engine-rebuilding-and-tuning job’ ; I loved doing it, but I fell from one into another…
…I’m actually saying ; I’ve learned my lesson…
…if you start tweaking your engine , it can end as the very well know money-pit…
Have a nice day !

Well if you think dozens of e-mails,questions,hours of burning the mid-night oil,and generally pitting your wits against a problem, equates to wandering into a shop and just putting you hand in your pocket and haveing a bike just like everyone else's,and then get excited over 'shall i fit a belly pan'!!! then thats the difference i guess.
