Calling London Riders

Post by Neil178 »

I've just seen the following message on a car site that I follow.
I appreciate that there is more chance of losing your roof to a tornado than finding this fellow road user, however it is worth a try.
If nothing else, it serves as a reminder, as if we need one, to ''be careful out there'' (was that in Hill Street Blues?).
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi all,

I know this is a long shot, but anyway.... Last night I was knocked
off my motorbike on the A406 Nth Circular at about 6:15 pm. I was doing
about 50mph, and some silly bint in a red Smart car decided she wanted
to put her car where my bike was. I slid for about 50 yards and by the
grace of someone up there didn't get run over or break anything, just a
sprained ankle and some bruises.

The point of this though is that she just drove on without stopping.
Which means I'll be paying my own insurance excess and replacing my destroyed clothing and helmet.
So, if any of you frequent the A406 around Tottenham, near the new
Ikea, and see a reddish-orange Smart driven by a 30-something year old
woman with dark curly hair, probably with damage to the passenger door
(a dent, or blue paint scrapes) I'd be VERY grateful if you'd take the
reg number and email me.
Thanks all, appreciate the help, and sorry to waste time for those of
you outside London.
Ian

A regular occurence, and I'm sure not just in the Smoke.

When I got knocked off my Streetrod it was in similar circumstances - woman in silver VW Gold enters roundabout, pulling out in front of me so I have to swerve to the right to miss her. I hit the horn (a Harley horn is bloody loud) but she carries on around the outside of the r/bout and makes as if to take first exit.

She decides at the last minute to do a 180deg (ie leave r'bout by the same exit she enters on) blocking me off - I've already turned the bike to the right (to miss her) as much as I dare on cold tyres. I've no choise but to brake hard. Her rear bumper takes out my front wheel.

Loud clatter of 280kg of Harley hits the deck. She drives on oblivious*.

*She's on the phone so has more important things to do than look out for other road users.

Glad your mostly Ok Neil. Suggest that you drop a quick email to 'TRD' (the Riders Digest),, a Londoncentric bike magazine for riders/couriers.

editor@theridersdigest.co.uk

Editor is Dave Gurman and will possibly publish a brief letter explaining the circumstances and request for Info.
Their website is www.theridersdigest.co.uk

(Dave knows me as 'Blue88' if he asks why or how you came to TRD.)

Best of luck

Geoff

You can probably make a claim off the MIB (Motor Insurance Bureau) if you're seriously out of pocket.

Currently doing the same for my accident in January, via RSS.

There cant be that many Smart Cars around. The Smart service centre is just west of Chiswick on the A4. Your mate should make a visit and see if said car is waiting for parts.

Been at the mulled wine already Geoff? :P
It wasn't me that 'had the off' bro. Just a cut and paste job from me.
Take the mick guys, but the bike is in the garage until the Spring unless we happen to get a really nice dry day.
Done the riding on ice bit. Got the T shirt, broken bike, broken hand a few years ago!
