Just ordered a 1200s

Post by stoney »

Just thought I'd say hi...I'm new to ther forum. I've finally taken the plunge an ordered an R1200s with the Sports pack, heated grips and alarm...in yellow.

I test-road one in the summer (from Rainbow) and loved-it, just couldn't give up the GS for it as the GS is so useful. So finally decided to buy one as well - Lucky me!

Pick her up next week...and am looking forward to adding the little bits here and there. Unlike most I love the looks of the standard cans but am sure they will sound pants so will be on the look out for something else. The Boss and Zard appeal, I think the Akro looks naff but may look better in the flesh.

Look forward to meeting up with you guys in the near future!

6 days and counting.....

Hi and welcome to the forum.Great news about buying a 1200s you wont regret it, i haven't.I was thinking about changing my exhaust as well but they all seem to be so expensive.I like the look of the bos one best but they seem to be a bit long, the akra looks very well made but is extortionate to buy.I think the standard one sounds ok when you are giving the bike some stick but is too quiet the rest of the time.

...the Akra almost sounds like the original one...
...Bos are indeed 'a bit' long ; and only look good if you go for the twin-down-pipe version...
...Laser, only without the decals please...
...Remus...wrong 'design' (IMO)
...Hattech...HUGE cans...(and only look 'good' on a black S)
...Zard...hmmm...

...I think I'll stick to the original one ; and modify the plate holder a bit...
Have a nice day !
Ron.

On the BMW stand at the NEC they had an Akro display where you could hear the various bikes with Akro silencers fitted. The R1200S sounded quite muted but still an improvement over stock.

Congrats on the new bike. I've also got a GS (an 1150) in addition to my R1200S.

THAT is what the bike should sound like  The Akra sounds like a wet f*rt IMHO.

Are you perchance the importer/middleman with all this vitriol you are spreading around :?:

IMHO its worth checking out the Remus down pipes/y piece, Gets rid of the Cat, Sounds a bit better than stock whilst still looking std. Front pipes also look 'cleaner' (I think) with no balance pipe. Best of all £310-00. Had it running last weekend next to Astles demo bike which has the Akra end can and it didn't sound much different!!

Hi Stoney,

Had an 1100 for four months and now have the 12 and it is a fabulous bike - hope you love it!

Dave

PS If you haven't seen the Dec issue of Bike have a look at page 93 where the 12 makes an appearance in the "Effortless Cool" category - how cool is that!

I had noticed

Check out my pic of Capirossi in last months edition!

Already ordered these bits:
R&G frame bung
R&G swingarm bung
R&G fork bungs
Wunderlich paddock stand
K&N
Clear Indicators (Front and rear)

I quite like the sound of just the header pipes - bit like the Y piece trick on the 1100/1150s. I think I see how I get on with the stock jobby first.
