There, you see? You're only justifying the fact that you've spent a fortune on yours making it 'better'. However that starts because you already have the bike. If you are in the position of having any bike to choose from, why not choose one that better suits your needs? That's what I was suggesting.

Having already been down the same route with my Bandit I can see both sides. I had a bike that fitted my needs quite well and was, generally, fast enough. However I wanted it to handle better and somewhere along the line it also went a bit faster. It didn't lose its rideability nor its all-round usefulness. Going faster, handling better or getting better weather protection were all going to cost me more money to buy another bike in terms of purchasing and running costs. Modding suited my needs. And was filled with learning and experience. If I wanted a fast, comfortable all-rounder I could just as easily have bought a Blackbird.

Well firstly i'm not down to my last fifty pence,if for one moment i thought there was a bike that was much better i'd buy it!!!,when i bought my S in 2000 i bought it because it was the only option,i hated it with a passion!!!!!! but as i've said before i never let my heart rule my head, before i bought the S one of the many bikes i rode was a Blackbird one of the true faceless modern day horrors, bland as dishwater, with zero wind protection at any kind of speed we live in world, were if something is fast it's termed great and the BB is liveing proof that ain't so.

I'll leave the final word to my dear wife, who haveing sat on the back of a demo BB after 40 miles,i pulled up and asked what she thought, her famous quote 'I'd catch a bus back if one was passing'

I'm in the process of trying to by a K1200s,a better bike??? just different, and no you don't get ripped of the thing when your rideing in double figures, and guess what??? when you use the back brake the front doesn't dive!!!!! how clever is that!!!.

I think you have the wrong bloke  He just does things because he can

Things have come on a tad since Chris bought his S six years ago but for sustained quick two up riding (all the time) there still isn't much about that'll touch it. We on this board (mostly) need not concern ourselves with pillions and it makes biking choices considerably more straightforward. Your comments about choosing the right bike holds true in most cases but some of us are just plain perverse and are quite happy pushing the limits of an antique boxer and giving the power rangers a fright
Lloyd

It's not how fast you ride, it's how you ride fast.
Light travels faster than sound. That's why some people appear
bright until you hear them speak.

My BCR steers quicker than your bike Chris - surprisingly so in fact (remember I rode them pretty much back to back a few weeks ago).

And mine has heavier wheels...and a crap steering damper.

;)

However, in relation to this thread, like Chris I quite like the idea of 'improving' a bike which one wouldn't normally (not if we're talking your average UK sportsbiker). Long may that continue imho.

 Business as usual in here then.
Forgive me father for I have sinned... ex S owner moved onto pastures new with four cylinders and a chain... and back to a twin, albeit in a V.
