Servicing costs

Post by windychris »

Okay, okay, first off, I WOULD do it myself, but it's in warranty. :(

Vines have just quoted me £250 for the S's 6000 mile service.

Seems a bit steep to me for what's likely (I haven't looked) to be a oil change and a tyre kick.... is it?

Seems like southern weighting pricing, but 6k includes valve check and may include brake fluid change if it coincides with annual anniversary.
Ask them what they are including then judge

Try South London Motorcycles at Caterham. They don't seem to charge quite as much as Vines.

You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

I got charged £253 for a 6k service last week at SLM - this included the £20 for the loan bike though.

I'll be going to Jap&German for the 12k as they'll still stamp the book for warranty etc.

Thanks, good info. Unfortunately geographically my only other option is SPC and reports of them seem just as bad. Since I bought the bike from Vines it may as well go back there as they know me.

I have to say I didn't know 6000 was a valve check and I don't feel so bad now - but an engine that needs a valve check at 6k?!?!

They did also agree to let me have a K12S off the sales fleet as I said I wanted a testride on one anyway, though. ;)

Try an Aprilia for size. Shims checked at 300 miles!

Just got mine back from Hurst Motorrad in N Ireland - 6K service for £140. Sadly, the cost of petrol and ferries is likely to negate the savings for most of you!

SPC have quoted £200.

Before I change the booking does anyone have anything they'd like to tell me? ;)

As soon as it's out of warranty I'll be doing it myself for the princely sum of a few hours out of the Mrs' hair! :D

I ordered an R1200S from SPC on Saturday and I asked the salesman what would the yearly service be, as I probably wouldn't be doing 6000 miles in a year. He said around £300  That can't be right, surely?

Windy Chris, I'm not too far from you in Denmead. Fancy a blatt sometime?
