I as about to mention Bennetts, my Carole Nash renewal came in Last December and despite having been with them for the last 5 years, NEVER having made a claim, living in a small village and the bike being garaged, it had gone up by £45. Phoned to query and got the usual rising costs bollox. Called Bennetts and the same Policy was £140, that's half the price CN wanted. Have now also added the Pan onto it for an extra £40.

I will call CN next renewal time but I think they're just taking the c*nt out of renewing customers.

Just renewed with Carole Nash, if you want the breakdown cover at home and abroad, they are still the best . Also they pay out ,ask Peter (Herman) . £180 even with my 9 points. My neighbour had an accident over a month ago, his insurance company have only just collected the bike and have not yet decided whether to wright it off,or repair it.

I'm with e-bike because they're one of the few people to offer a flexible multi-bike policy (i.e. you can change the number of bikes you have on cover - most multi-bike policies don't allow this).

I was involved in an 'incident' in April which resulted in considerable damage to the bike through the actions of a 3rd party. I soon discovered that e-bike's appointed claims handlers ("The Claims Service") are CRAP - messed me around no end, were no help in any respect and wouldn't send a claim form in the the post despite my asking for one a couple of times (said it wasn't necessary :? ). After a few weeks I gave up, decided not to claim (mainly for the sake of my NCD), and fixed the bike myself, resorting to the police and the courts to recover my losses. TWO MONTHS later they sent me a claim form to fill in!!! Too late - intentionally, perhaps? Cheaper for them if they wait long enough for me to do it myself..... Leaves me wondering why I ever paid for fully-comp in the first place.

The moral of this is that if you just want cheap insurance then e-bike are OK. But if you want good cover and (if the worst happens) professional and prompt claims handling it's probably worth paying a bit more for that. I doubt that e-bike will get my business come renewal time - you get what you pay for. With the mileage I do each year I need to know that if the bike gets 'lost or killed' I'll be back on the road in a matter of a couple of weeks, not a couple of months.

Of course this is something you learn only after it's too late - no amount of comparing excesses and premiums can help you establish what happens if it all goes t*ts up. This is why I'm sharing  Anyone claimed successfully off e-bike?

Sproggy,
Unfortunately your dealings with e-bike seem to be totally different to M25jambusters who has been full of praise for the service he received. It was partly this which made me make the change,Hopefully I'll not be making any claims but will follow any one else's dealings with interest.

It probably depends upon the nature of the claim as to how well they deal with it. Mine was admittedly somewhat unusual - the third party has just (end of last week) appeared in court charged with assault and criminal damage.....

This still doesn't excuse sending a claim form 2 months after the incident, particularly after telling me I didn't need to complete one anyway.

Luck of the draw which monkey you speak to on the phone, I guess - if your particular incident doesn't follow one of their pre-prepared scripts then they seem (from my limited experience) to just make it up as they go along.

e-bike themselves have been very easy to deal with (mainly online, but a couple of times on the phone) - it's just the independent claims company I had trouble with. All aspects contribute towards the overall service, though.

Just had a renewal notice from Carole Nash. ( 2 bikes , FJR + R1100S) Last year £350 ish, this year £718..... :!: There were higher priced options, to show what good value their quote is :?

I'm renewing with Bennetts, basic £ 239, (£299 with their UK + European Breakdown cover)

Peter / All

My experience with eBike was good when it came to dealing with the claim for the damage to the bike. All the details were taken over the phone and the repairs were authorised within two weeks. Apparently the authorisation would have been instant had I put the bike to one of their network of authorised repairers but I wanted the bike repaired by the supplying dealer. However I did have an 'issue' with their legal rep that was appointed. They initially didnt want to act on my behalf and tried to get out of it by quoting some nonsense about responsible third parties etc. I pointed out to them some relevent road traffic law and the responsibility of the highways agency to maintain a safe carriageway and they then 'decided' to act on my behalf to recover uninsured losses and personal injury etc. I think with something that falls into the slightly difficult box they will try and wriggle out of it but then again is this any different to any other insurer?? Probably not in all honesty. The speed at which the damage claim was dealt with meant that the bike was repaired and returned by van back to my home address before I was medically fit enough to ride again. I hope this helps to provide an insight into eBike at the time when the policyholder needs them most - making a claim!!
I have also re-newed my policy with them recently on this basis.

What was the relevant traffic law that you quoted to the legal rep and why. I ask simply out of curiosity and you never know when such a piece of information might be useful,

I have stayed with CN as they seem to be one of the few that can get their underwriters to cope with heavily modified bikes. Anyone else found other companies that can deal with something thats not quite as the factory intended?
