Private plate problem?

Post by richphela »

Hi all
I'm after a really sweet mandarin r1100s with bellypan and seat cowl.
Only problem is they want to keep their private plate, How do I re register the bike before buying it .
Or do I have to pay a delivery truck?
Its three grand ,full service history 47k, very clean.
Just no plate.
What do you guys think?
Cheers

If they want to keep the plate they normally have to put it on a retainer which then makes the DVLA issue a new age related plate for the bike if the original is no longer available.
Its really the sellers responsibility to have a registration plate not yours.

That’s how I understand it……………………
If I am ever on life support - Unplug me......
Then plug me back in..........

See if that works .....

Yep - can be done online very simply by the seller. They retain the plate and pay the £80, which generates a new VRN and issues a new V5. The new V5 then arrives in the post and they can then do the keeper transfer part of it to you as normal. If they transfer it to you before they retain the plate, then the plate is yours!

If I'm right, you bought your new bike in Germany. Didn't you?

If so, you should have enquired before, because Germans always keep their plates. Their system is done like this.

If you buy a vehicle in Germany, you have to buy temporary plates from their registration service or put the vehicle on a trailer.
