Both wheels out?

Post by Rob B »

Need some new tyres and was having a play with the stands while doing the bike's annual wash and clean up, how do you get it safe and stable?

I have the gen BMW rear stand and a Harris front. If I put it on the rear stand first, the rear tyre's back on the deck before the front stand is airborne. I suppose I could wizz the rear up, take off the wheel, and then prop the front up.

Had visions of bike on the floor and broken plastics everywhere. What is the advice of the S Massive?

TIA, Rob

I pass a rope through a roof joist in the garage.
Not very trick but I know the bike won't end up on its side.

I think that was what I did last time, lucky enough to have an RSJ with a chain hoist in my garage. Also used for front suspension work, just seems a bit "Oh my god, will it still be upright when I get back?"

I use a block of wood under the sump, in conjunction with bottom frame lug stand, it's pretty steady...

Toodle Pip

Same as Paul.

S-lifter in place with a couple of planks underneath for extra clearance, wind up the front with a bottle jack high enough to get the front wheel out from under the front mudguard, then lower onto wooden blocks under the sump and remove back wheel. Steady as a rock.

Then I lock the door and tell everyone to keep out of the garage while I'm at the tyre fitters

Adam :)
Forgive me father for I have sinned... ex S owner moved onto pastures new with four cylinders and a chain... and back to a twin, albeit in a V.

Then you can do this:

You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

Hi Rob

Most of the Germany photos that i've seen with race bikes use the BM stand with alloy rounds discs cut in half and screwed onto the stand, got the same result by putting wooden blocks under the stand to raise the back up,before putting the front stand under the forks works fine.

Rob - like Chris said, get a couple of 'wheels' made up to fit the BM stand
