Rear wheel plug?

Post by Dickie2679 »

I need to plug the hole in the centre of the rear wheel, I've just had a new tyre fitted & it looks like water has got behind the the wheel, it had gone a bit rusty/fuzzy, so the wheel would not come off.
What is the cheapest option?

The cheapest option is to take it of and grease it on a regular basis, two bolts on the caliper and four wheel bolts!!! takes long to get the tools out than to actually do the job it's self.

Assuming you've got a centre stand or paddock stand to get it off the floor

IMO it's quite necessary to have a plug in the wheel if you do any sort of all weather-riding.

I was lucky enough to hear about this problem very early on and bought one (from a chap in Oz actually! - don't think he does them any more though), and over 32000 miles of ALL season, ALL weather riding, the hub has remained rust free. :D

Get one.

I think Wunderlich do one.

Thanks, I was going to grease the bolts & drive flange, but the repair manual says the bolts must be 'free of grease & oil'
I wonder if I could fit another bolt in the hole with a nut on the other side?

I've just been to my local BMW dealer, to ask if they had anything & they produced a black plastic plug. It pushed into the hole, seems secure & looks like a black cap in the wheel centre - total price? £3.21 :D

Part number MC36.31.7.665.843

I have a photo if anyone wants to give me your email

Forgive me father for I have sinned... ex S owner moved onto pastures new with four cylinders and a chain... and back to a twin, albeit in a V.
