Disney...and Paris

Postby Gromit » Mon Aug 03, 2015 2:47 pm

I was quietly dreading this holiday - I usually despise these sort of places (that's theme parks) but in the end had a super time. Greg - you were so right!!! The trip was topped off with a day in Paris on the last day of Le Tour although the weather was foul. All photos are OOC jpegs from Fuji X100T with either Classic Chrome or Velvia film simulation. Mono is done in LR5.

A few from the trip...

Our Molly - soon after leaving Sleaford rail station with a smile that didn't fade for the whole weekend:

Ha! I knew I would be right about something one day :D

Glad you enjoyed the trip (it's impossible not to when kids and Disney are involved) and you have some fabulous photos (and memories) of the trip to look back on when you are old and grey. Well old anyway :)

Next stop ..........FLORIDA!!

Florida? We'd better start saving in that case - we totted up the cost of a couple of weeks over there (doing Epcot, Space Centre etc too) and the ££ was slightly eye-watering.

We had a really good few days at D/Paris though, just a shame the weather went Pete Tong on sunday for the last leg of the Tour - we were absolutely soaked by 4pm so called it a day. Really wanted to stay and watch the riders come through but the kids were getting cold. Fantastic, friendly atmosphere though and whilst I'm no great fan of Paris, it was a grand day out.

Only thing which got me down all weekend was the behaviour of some of the folk at the Park - the words 'manners' and 'crowd/queue etiquette' are clearly lost on some people. The staff though were fantastic - very professional and the brass ensemble (in the photo) was superb; playing was at a very high level indeed.

That's a really nice set of photo's Richard. that group one is great. I think the trick to liking Paris is to know where to go and to avoid the main tourist areas. My first few visits in my thirties were a nightmare but in later life and with the benefit of a French girlfriend who knows where to go it's totally different. Having said that, I worked there for five months a couple of years ago and even without her being there it was great. I really do love the place and if I spoke the lingo well enough I could quite easily live there. It's still not as good as London though ;-)

Thanks Steve. :)

I think the problem with me is that I'm not especially a 'city' sort of chap, although saying that I absolutely love Berlin. Perhaps down to having a great fascination for 20th century history from 1930-1950 - there's simply nowhere better for delving into this than Berlin.

Would certainly like to 'do' Paris more though with someone who has a decent amount of local knowledge.
