I know one should never let the facts get in the way of a good story but a slight correction is necessary.

The said CC would have had a salary of roughly £125k and if he served 30 years he would be entitled to 66% (c£82500) of that having paid 12% of his salary over the course of his service. He could take 25% of the 66% as a lump sum ( so reducing his annual pension to £60k)

It is fashionable to attack final salary pension schemes, but everyone had them until recently just the private sector could remove theirs quicker as they were not set by act of parliament . the police also have one of the highest levels of personal contribution ( now 15%) and now have to work 40 years to get reduced benefits as a result of recent changes meanwhile the MPs scheme is untouched !!
PS Steve, the said Mr Brunstrom was my Sgt many years ago - he was just the same then !

Steve I would like to correct you on that, there is no such thing as final salary pensions for public sector execs, they seem to recycle themselves into another double insulated public sector salary. NHS Trust, Local authority etc. He will probably end up as Chief Exec of Midd Staffs NHS or Furness Midwifery Musketeer Overseer No1.... and just as useless as the previous charlatans..... and then when exposed they get another pension.... Many thanks for turning my funny joke into something disturbing
