New R1200 motor retrofitted to the R1100s?

Post by Smeegles »

Was wondering if this is possible.
I quite like the shape of the current S and was wondering if the new boxer motors could replace the motor in the current bike or would there be some engineering and electrical issues that would make the whole project too difficult? and more expensive than the new bike?
Any suggestions?

Anything is possible if you either have the know how or money!
I imagine the frame would have to be messed about with and the drive train from the new bike fitted.Engine ecu, wiring loom etc etc.It would cost a shed load of money, dont forget the cost of the donor engine, gear box, drive train and electrics. Then the fabrication costs.
Better off spending the money on tuning the S engine, which you could get near or better the output of the new boxers. They are claimed 115 at the crank, people have been getting theirs 110 at the wheel for decentish money.

One slight problem the 1200 motor is half the size of the S motor!!!! hence the KB 35.

Go have a look at Chris's post in Boxerbanter:

It's a lash-up made by the unofficial BMW race team, based on the R1200 GS motor with a sporty looking set of fairings. They prove germans really do have a sense of humour as they re trying to sell these bikes at €30k a pop.
You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

Lash up!!!! blimey more to do the the fact that the new boxer motor is so much smaller than whats in our S,there isn't a fat lot of choice, but to put some different tubes around it.

I've no doubt when the new S come out next year the'll someone on here saying 'It's so much smaller darling'!!!!!
