anyone give me a little info on this, had an advisory on the MOT that there is a little play in the rear wheel bearing, now it seems that there isn't a bearing in the wheel in the traditional sense?? Haven't had a look at it yet but just trying to get a feel for whats involved in advance.
Thanks

Re: Rear wheel bearing R1100S
I replaced the paralever bearings a few times but never the bevelbox bearing. There was no play but it became rough after 90 k miles and as I'd acquired a new bevel box I just swopped the lotHoggyf wrote:anyone give me a little info on this, had an advisory on the MOT that there is a little play in the rear wheel bearing, now it seems that there isn't a bearing in the wheel in the traditional sense?? Up to 1mm play is OK in the paralever bearings, but they're no biggie to adjust or swap out if knackered.
Try feeling for free play with the back brake applied. If it disappears it's most likely the large bearing - if so DON'T ignore it. It will gradually get worse (you may or may not see a weep of oil from the seal.)
If you don't mind spending £20 it's easy enough to pull the seal and check the bearing without any dismantling.
Below is a picture of an 1100S bearing from a bike that was brought to me a couple of years ago. There was a slight weep from the seal, but hardly noticeable. Don't know how much longer it would have gone before failing.
