It's a series about a group trying to survive a zombie infested apocolypse.
Not usually into this sort of thing, but it's brilliant.
Evidently it's hugely popular and has won awards, but I have yet to meet anyone who watches it

Well there's some great acting.
This is so much more than a silly zombie programme.
More like thought provoking drama.
A few British actors playing Americans as well.
Noteably, Andrew Lincoln (the sheriff) who most Americans did not know was British till his first interview after season one.

I attempted to watch a couple of episodes in the first season and failed miserably , my limited intellectual capacity obviously didn't allow me to see any of the above I haven't heard any work colleagues talking about it recently. ( no idea what season they're on now) " Breaking bad" is the talked about one now , although I haven't watched that one at all....

Everything with zombies is to be considered educational material.

Zombie apocalypse: not if but when.

I'm a big fan of the series. I was a bit uncertain during season 2 that was extremely slow, but I like it a lot.

I never read the comic book though.

As does David Morrissey. He is amazing.

I'm watching another american series where the main actor is a brit as well, talking with a cali accent.

Zombie apocalypse: not if but when.

OK as this is a geek section, allow me to ask a geeky question,
If the world did end in some sort of virul ridden catastrophe, and only a few survived, what would happen to the nuclear power stations all over the world.
We've already seen the potential for disaster in Japan, with just one small one.
If no one manned the power stations, and there was no electricity, then there would be a huge meltdown of reactors all over the world, meaning that the few left would quicky die from radioactive contamination, long before zombies became an issue,
This is what is always conveniently overlooked in the latest spate of apcolypse films / tv programmes.

They have decay heat removal systems, which will keep the reactor cores at a safe temperature, without external power.

It's when a fail-safe system(s) fail or other external influence prevails - that there are problems.

A strike by an aircraft could happen tomorrow, but it is calculated as less than once in a million reactor-operating years that a catastrophic air strike or other similar magntude event occurs.

used to be that the nuclear industry (UK USA at least) used "Westinghouse Rules" to justify the plant, but a clever fella called Norman Rasmussen (of MIT) came up with Wash 1400 / Rasmussen safety study, which was true probablistic risk assessment rather than the more simplistic Westinghouse approach.

I don't think the Japanese did their number-crunching too well

I watched some of the early seasons of Dexter and previously skimmed through he book , enjoyed both . watched bits of House too , I guess I'm just not a fan of long drawn out money spinners.
28 days later is my favourite zombie type film, and predictably 28 weeks later just wasn't as good.

I'll ask something else: what about planes?

There is a massive amount of planes in the sky at any time (my guess, more than 10 ).
Normally on autopilot, if the crew is unresponsive, the plane starts flying following a triangle shaped route (emergency signal) till the fuel runs out.

I think most planes will end up in the sea, but still, pretty massive number of metal meteors to drop from the sky in case of the apocalypse...
