Hissing sound

Post by tapper54 »

Hi All,Getting a sort of Hissing sound when I apply the front brake on my R 1100 S, almost like that of air coming out of a tyre when you stick a match in the tyre valve, everything seems fine with the brakes & the fluid, just wondering if its just the pads friction sound that I can hear, its just that I have never heard that before on any other bike, Any ideas ! cheers,Gary.

I'm guessing it's just the sound of the pads over the holes in the discs?

If your pads aren't worn through to the rivets, wear ear-plugs

Rivets in brake linings! you must be as old as me to remember those.
There would appear to be a surfeit of prolixity and sesquipedalian content today please do not use a big word when a singularly un-loquacious and diminutive linguistic expression will satisfactorily accomplish the contemporary necessity

I can remember on a YTS (Remember them?) at the tender age of 17 riveting friction material onto shoes for HGVs - I didn't really understand how critical that job was!!

As above , it's just the drilled discs and pad material combination . Mines quite bad since the last disc change when I fitted EBC's and they really chew up pads too.....

Brembo pads are notorious for making a hissing sound when applied firmly. That one of the reasons I use Brembo pads
