Heli Bars
I am new ro the R1100S. My last BMW was a 1200GS so its a bit of a shock leaning forward so much. Its not a problem at the moment but I have a feeling I will need to be a little higher at the front end. (57 next week!)
So my question is, were heli bars ever made for the R1100S?, do they make a difference? or are there other options out there?
I can see that Heli bars are still available for the 1200S - would they fit the 1100S?
Thanks
Lloyd.

Are you aware that the standard clip-on bars can be simply put above the top yoke? It involves drawing the fork tubes up through the top yoke a llittle that's all.
For me (I compare my normal bike with my pal's altered bike) it makes the riding position almost exactly 'Honda'. Feels completely different.
Edit: He's seventy, got a few years on you!

'Hinterachsge' translates as 'rear axle'.(Not 'Differential', so f*** off)

The standard bar's above the top yoke make a great difference you will have to at least reroute[spellin] the brake hose at most replace the hose, mine was fine untill i replaced the front shoc then the hose was too short for me to feel comfortable about, now waiting till i can find second hand hoses i want two of them one for each side,
move them up and try it it makes a big difference if your hoses reach
Just realised your a touch older than me but i have degenerative disc disorder

higher bars
Try the bars above the yoke first, you can go a little higher and back with the Bar backs, which is what i have done, it transforms the comfort.
A pair of custom brake lines from Hel cost me £42 pounds delivered so thats no great expense, plus the new individual are an improvement for me at least as mine were the original 8 year old hoses.

Shouldn't be too dificult - the worst part of brake/hose work on the 1100s, to me - is the integral reservoir on the right bar.
You have to keep topping the thing up, and tape polythene below it to capture any spills of fluid.
Later models (and most other makers) - you can replace the reservoir temporarily - with a high capacity header tank.

If I am ever on life support - Unplug me......
Then plug me back in..........
See if that works .....

Re: Heli bars
Buy two single lines from Hel or the like. Dead easy to fit and bleed, it took me no more than an hour.Lpb wrote:How difficult is it to replace the hoses on the R1100S?
I assume whilst the system is empty you should do all of the front hoses, not just the upper ones?
Thanks
Lloyd.

Just remove the tank/side panels
(5min job, indicator bulb holders are bayonet fixings
) and put 'em well out of the way before messing with brake fluid
Oh, and be careful to get the little, very fragile locating lugs (3 a side) that fit in slots on the central tank panel positioned correctly when you re-fit 'em.

It's all VFR (DCT) round here now. STILL missing my 1100s tho.
