Don`t forget the Allegro, same engines as the Maxi. Both the 1500 and 1750cc had 5 speeds boxes. 1750 sport was a quick little car and came with a round steering wheel unlike the 1100 version!

Tis True but the Maxi was out in 1969 the Aggro didn't come along until 1973. I remeber the Newspaper adverts for the MAXI. 5 doors, Five Seats Five Gears (it's a wonder BL did fit a bloody 5th wheel).

I have to admit owning an Allegro and having fond memories of it, I also had an Ambassador when we were stationed in Germany, cheap fuel, 2200cc and like driving a sofa on long autobahn trips. Those were the days

Truly a great and thought provoking ad. My cousin works with a Los Angeles DUI lawyer and have told me numerous times how drunk driving can ruin not only yours but many other innocent people’s live. One should never get behind the wheel when drunk.

Reminds me of a story about my grandfather back in the day, he was a stevedore in Southampton docks and they were renound for setting up drinking dens in the warehouses, he used to have a BSA and a policeman stopped him on his way home, the upshot being you should ride on the road not the pavement

I remember some sort of German joke (that's right - not a mis print) from the ADAC - German automobile club for those that don't know) stating that 10% of road traffic accidents were caused by too much alcohol - so, therefore 90% were caused sans alcohol and it is therefore concluded that's it's safer to drink and drive

Like the oft used phrase that 25% of all accidents are speed related, which means 75% have nowt to do with speed yet they obsess about the 25% and still squeal it's not a cash cow

Ha ha! I remember many a trip in the back of my mate's dad's Austin Princess as a kid. It was exactly that - sofa-like.
