Steve Hislop.... well sadly he will not be in Denholm at our bash (neither will be his bro Gary, fatality of a motorcycle incident) but this was his home village. Not a Hawick laddie as those who live there will want you to believe in fact he was educated at Jedburgh Grammar School. Denholm hosts a Hizzy Run staged from the village green in front of the hotel you will be biding in, it is hosted by Wendy Oliver who runs the family auto and motor cycle repair shop at the other side of the green, it looks like something out of Heartbeat with the old style fuel pumps. Fuel is available there. There is an amazing piece of moto art in the Fox and Hounds pub 40 metres from the hotel, capturing Hizzy hedge trimming at the TT. It`s a watercolour and if it were anywhere else I swear it would have been nicked by now! It sells great local cask ale too.

In fairness to Hawick (3 miles away) there is a bronze of Hizzy and a dedicated museum, also a very proud Border Town.. The Home of Cashmere.

The Tour of Britain is starting in Hawick on the 5th & Finishing in Duns. This will involve rolling road closures but is bypassing Denholm to the south.

Group dinner , choices from extensive bar menu... reasonably priced . Dave informs that they can cope with individual choices on the night.

I have sussed out the Tour of Britain route and have timed a run down Hawick High Street minutes before the Plod arrive. There will be a reception committee for us situated outside The Bourtree (weatherspoons) at app. 10.30am
