Shaft/UJ angles

Postby Gromit » Mon Feb 23, 2004 10:11 pm

Quick ques (having struck a deal on a Wunderlich adjustable arm-type thingy whatsit) regarding UJ angles:

So... a UJ works best when not in a 'straight ahead' position? So (the sequel).... if the driveshaft is at a certain 'down' angle from the gearbox, does the rear bevel box's UJ then have to point 'up' at the same angle or can it also be pointing down?

<Apologies for the highly tech-laden prognosis but I'm just a fick muso> :)

I know Mr B doesn't agree, but I don't think it matters. I just adjust mine till the tyre touches the ground on the centre stand - very technical

Ricahrd, there is a recommended UJ angle(feck knows what it is!) but any angle is better than no angle. This works for up or down!

Ricardo

Wunderthingymajig et all clearly make and sell hundreds if not thousands of these things round the world and I doubt people wold continue buying them if they had a reputation for buggering the transmission. The UJ is moving up and down all the time with every bump anyway innit.

Unless the fitting instructions recommend a range of angles then I still suspect it's hearsay. It seems a fact that not all the BM range use the same angle but I bet they use the same UJ's

Ricardo

You might have seen this already being a BM bloke for a while, but I found it quite interesting
