R1100S Cubic Capacity on V5?

Postby R1100S » Fri Mar 29, 2019 2:52 pm

Hi All,

Just purchased a 2004 R1100S and have a burning question already. Sorry if its been asked before.

My V5 I have just received through the post states 1130cc.... which is the 1150 designation CC, but BMW didn't make an R1150S?

The engine number is correct on the V5 and I don't think its ever been changed.

Wikipedia for the R1100S only states 1x cc of 1085 even for the Boxer Cup?

Is it a clerical error on my V5?

Thank you for any replies. I will post some pictures in a Diary thread soon.

Regards

Jay.

Hi, and welcome to the Forum. :)

I don't know much about the earlier boxers, but even though the engine number matches that on the V5, it doesn't preclude an engine change at some point....assuming an 1150 engine will fit an 1100 (see, told you I didn't know much!). Clerical errors on V5s do happen - I've had my surname printed incorrectly, a new bike showing as 'used or previously registered overseas, that sort of thing, presumably because someone has hit the wrong key - so it's a possibility.

This came up once before , but I can't find the thread , the 11S is 1085 cc , probably need to contact BMW to correct this . (The clerical error presumably originated with BMW)

Like others I'm pretty sure this has been raised before, and I'm also pretty sure all 1100S's are 1085cc but that there are some that erroneously have 1130cc on their documentation.
The official BMW Repair Manual only lists 1085ccc as the capacity for all models of 1100S.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply. Seems the verdict is; what ever is written on the V5 is totally random !

I have just asked the same question for the 11S I am looking to buy, it is 1130 on the V5 and the .GOV site, also shows as a 1130 on the HPI report, trouble is when I tried to get insurance it shows as a 1085 so my worry is if I tried to claim in the future they would havea get out of jail free card.
