Nav 6 notification

Postby slparry » Thu Jul 04, 2024 7:50 am

As many know Nav 6's can be troublesome with ghosting on the touchscreen, i.e. it occasionally acts like a ghost is operating it and swaps screens etc.

There are various reported fixes, only one I've found that partially helps it to regularly clean the screen.

However, during my recent Scottish trip mine acted up smack in the middle of Glasgow resulting in a missed junction and a whole load of hassle to reroute.

Contacted Garmin, and despite my unit being a few years old, and it came with my RT when I bought it, they're on a recall with apparently lifetime warranty !

So the nice lady at Garmin processed the return for me and next day I received an email with the UPS returns label and when I get chance I'll pop it into the post to get a freshly new or refurbed one with the updated screen back :D

I had 4 nav 6 replacements and when I asked for a refund on it, they said they couldn’t refund at that time and arranged my 5th replacement!
I then got in touch with Sycamore BMW, where I purchased it from and they refunded me as it was less than 2 years old.
I’m now using the BMW CRN, which to me is working loads better. I know they’re not perfect, but I’m more than happy with it

Maybe I've been lucky, but my Nav 6 has been 100% reliable up to now. That's after fours years of ownership.

I never leave it on the bike, whilst not in use and update the maps every 8/9 weeks and bingo.

I bought Paul's old Nav VI earlier in the year and it worked for a while and then started having a few problems. As per Steve's post Garmin replaced it without quibble for an updated unit with a different touch technology. Great customer service.

Ooh, can I have it back now? :D

Only jesting. Still loving my CarPlay device from Chigee, which plugs into the BMW/Garmin cradle and works with the wonder wheel. Glad you had a good result with Garmin Ian. :thumbright:

Cheers,

Paul
You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

:D :D It's a fair question! To be honest, the problems with it weren't too bad, but once I'd heard Garmin were swapping them out I thought it was worth a go.
Your Chigee sounds great, I'll be very interested to see it next time we meet.

All the best
