04 R1100S low fuel light not working?

Postby Rufus » Mon May 31, 2021 3:51 pm

Is the above a common fault and is there an easy/cheap fix generally?
Or shall i just rest the odo at the start of each ride and fill up at 150 miles ish?

Over all the years of riding, I've always used the odo.

I've never been fully able to trust a light ...

Ridden R1100S since 1999, same one since 2003. Never a problem with fuel light, so not a common fault.

Not a problem I've ever had , next time the filter is due for change , check the tank connector ( can be prone to corrosion) and that the float isn't stuck.

Not had this problem, but first bike I've had without a fuel gauge. With lockdown & work I've not had much chance to get some miles on the bike, so still learning the tank range.

Is 150mls a good "marker" to think about refueling. Also, what is the emergency range once the light does come on (average).

Unless yours has a modified larger tank I'd be shooting for 130 miles rather than 150.

Correct , N9JOB light came on a few times about 129 miles !!

I kind of start looking for a fuel station about 110 miles when I'm on longer trips !

Like GerryB i'm also an odo man. Looking for a stop around 140 and starting to worry a little at around 160 although I don't think I have ever put more than 14.5 litres in the tank even at 160 miles leaving me 2.5 litres spare or 30 miles. Never tested my logic though so still stick to the odo. Even when the light has come on at 125 miles, it goes off again invariably with some gentle riding and I end up with a decent range. This is a 12S so may be a little different, 17 litre tank on mine from memory
