A couple of weeks ago my bike got suddenly very noisy and here's the reason why. The joint where the stub goes into the silencer had rotted through. Odd that this one bit should rot away yet the rest is in such good condition. Here's I've cleaned up one side and ready to do the same on the stub.
So with the stub also cut back to the weld I had a decent bit of metal to form a joining piece. Found a bit of 2mm stainless to shape around with a bit of heat.
Here it is just a tiny bit of adjustment to get a reasonable fit
It wasn't exactly easy to weld, too keen on burning holes but I got there with some stop-starts for cooling and then offered up the stub using marks that I'd made before doing any cutting, to ensure it was properly aligned.
And here it is tacked on for welding, with a final check.
I didn't get a pic of the finally welded bit because I was running late for work. All in all it took me a couple of hours but the repair should last a long time, or at least long enough for me to find a replacement.

Sadly I didn't until after it was sold.
Re: Exhaust repair
I think this is the third one posted on here over the years that I remember. Nice bit of welding there!
