R1100S engine number

Postby TimClarke » Tue Oct 22, 2019 7:07 pm

I bought a R1100s a couple of months ago and have just changed the oil and I noticed the engine number doesn't seem to be there either obscured by paint or removed which is a bit worrying. The frame number matches the V5 OK.

I don't suppose it's anywhere on the engine apart from the obvious (as you look at the right hand cylinder from the right hand side side it's just to the right of it?

You got me thinking , so I've just had a look and although it was visible years ago the paint on most of the engine has departed (including the vertical strip below the middle of the R/H cylinder) and oxidisation has made the numbers less visible . I tried chalk but that didn't help , brake cleaner or anything volatile makes the numbers appear enough to be legible as it evaporates if that helps .
The only other visible stamped numbers are to the rear of the cylinder but then I realised that's the bell housing/ gearbox...
I'll have the tank off mine in the next few days and post back here if i find any numbers under there.

I finally got around to dismantling my bike , but no sign of an engine number anywhere else...
