U.K. Clean Air Zone
I’ve just checked my 12s on the Bristol clean air zone checker and my bike comes up as a CAZ vehicle type Car I checked my V5C and the category is M1. On Karens V5 for her Kawasaki it shows L3 category.
I managed to find the Reg of another 12s and comes up the same Bristol CAZ
Can anyone confirm what their bike comes up as cheers.

Re: U.K. Clean Air Zone
My 2005 R1150R is the same (M1) :-

I am not sure how this can be resolved - maybe you have to go to BMW?

Russ

It started badly, it tailed off a little in the middle and the less said about the end the better, but apart from that it was excellent.
Re: U.K. Clean Air Zone
I’ve tried any number of R1200 around my bikes vintage and all come back with M1 category

Re: U.K. Clean Air Zone
Phil, tried my K1200RS which is 2003 and it came back with "no charge" for all the clean air cities (didn't try London). But nowhere can I find this M1 category and it's blank on my V5. My R1100S also says no charge and also has no category stated on the V5.

Re: U.K. Clean Air Zone
It’s an odd one, hopefully no repercussions would ever come of it but I really can’t understand how a motorcycle which is clearly stated on the V5 and taxed accordingly could have its type approval classed as M1. As dark night has said where you’d get it resolved and even start to beggars belief

Re: U.K. Clean Air Zone
Hmm, I feel a rant coming on! I think motorcycles are outside the scope of the Brissle CAZ - I looked recently as I need to go there; sorry no link to hand. But the Brissle CAZ is just the centre so if all you need is eg Clifton and beyond you should be fine anyway.
I've had a seriously frustrating time with little Sadiq's ULEZ. My new 1150GS is within the NOX spec underpinning the ULEZ and I got a Certificate of Conformity from BMW to prove it. Interestingly, the 1150 from 2001 emits only 50% of the current Euro6 NOX emission standard. Whatever else, BMW seem to have been prescient two decades in front the times... So, send the CoC and the V5C to ULEZ and they seem utterly unable to cope; the V5C says NOX emissions of 0 because when the bike was made they didn't log it. Hence the CoC, but ULEZ admin seem completely incapable of reading two pieces of paper, and instead send a generic 'computer says no' response saying there's a problem with the V5C or similar. All the more bizarre because I did exactly the same with the R1150RS and my previous 1150GS back in 2019 / 2020 and got an exemption within a couple of days. The other wrinkle with ULEZ admin is they take anything up to 6 weeks to reply to an email, and the reference on the reply doesn't square to any previous reference they use. So chasing them is fraught with danger; even if they say 'yes', a week later you'll get another response saying 'no'.
So after the latest rejection I'm leaving it for a few months then I'll ask again...
Bottom line is all these CAZ schemes seem to be there to make money. There's absolutely no incentive for those responsible to grant exemptions, and no oversight to make them abide by their own rules if doing so means they make less money. Hopefully the Brissle system won't hound you if you clearly have only two wheels and the V5C agrees, but who knows?

Re: U.K. Clean Air Zone
Hi James, there’s no problem with any city CAZ and my bike is compliant with the ULEZ, no charge anywhere (only the congestion charge for London) the problem is the the class of vehicle is M1 on the V5, it’s a car who’s fault it is we don’t know BMW/DVLA or vehicle certification agency. Where I do see a problem is if I need to get an emissions sticker for France or any other EU country and I then have to submit a copy of the V5 and the class says M1 not L3 but that’s for another topic lol

Ah, got it Phil. I have yet to try France, but I don't hold out much hope for either of my dinosaurs. Hey ho! J
Re: U.K. Clean Air Zone
It will make no difference if Khan gets back in (hope not) as of 2025 all vehicles including electric will have to pay so i would think any city with a charge would follow suit, especially Bristol.
