clear cylinder head covers
When I was out for my Sunday morning bimble the other week, I pulled up at some traffic lights next to a guy on a GS who had some clear plastic cylinder head covers on his bike, much like these. It was quite mesmerising to watch the valves operating and seeing the oil swoosh around. I can't imagine they would be much use if you dropped or crashed the bike, but interesting to look at... on somebody else's bike.
You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

Essential piece of kit, should really be fitted as standard.

I saw some on a static engine display at one of the shows a few years ago, as an engineer I agree with Paul, mesmerising and interesting, but practical? Not at all, and fitting head guards sort of defeats the purpose of having them in the first place.

A fully plastic motor was built in the late'70's called a Polimotor and raced in the '80's with a few top 10 finishes - google it.
IIRC it was all plastic apart from the piston crowns, crankshaft and cylinder sleeves and half the weight of the standard all metal Ford Pinto it was based on.

The nearest I've got to that, is a clear tappet cover on my Enfield...

Re: clear cylinder head covers
I dare say that would also equate to the mag/ cheese ones? One could also fit head cover covers to protect them from that instance.Paul wrote: "I can't imagine they would be much use if you dropped or crashed the bike"
