ipod files

Hi all,
I have a old ipod that I wanted to put some xmas songs on and I don't
know how to do it without iTunes,
Tried going to my computer but for some reason it shows as a ipod with
the memory free but I cannot seem to get into the files ?

anyone know how to get into the files?

ps I have downloaded some 3rd party software (without the need of iTunes)
but it seems that it's not seeing the ipod for whatever reason ?

Silly question. Why don't you just use iTunes?

Hi,
Well it was a long time ago (two pc's) that I last used iTunes and if I remember right
if you upload tracks onto it when it sync's it replaces what's on the ipod with what's stored
in ituns which means I would lose all that's on the ipod as I have no backup !!
but I may (hopefully) be wrong,
