This is just me showing off .

So the rooms and train crossings are booked and the Brochure is out for the Dengie100 MCC social weekend in France. (dates and meeting point redacted)

We go away for a mix of riding and socialising over drinks and dinner not just getting in as many miles as is humanly possible in a day. (Mostly we are all aged over 60 so a couple of hundred miles a day is about right for a 4 day weekend)

A Report will follow in September I'll try to remember to record the daily rides out so I can share the maps.

A trip to Wales is coming up in May so a report on that will be added after the event.

Well it was a chilly and damp weekend away from the 6th to the 10th of September.

Day one went pretty much like clockwork - we left our meeting point only 4 minutes late and arrived at Maidstone services for a fuel top-up in plenty of time (Re-planning for another time as we won't be stopping for fuel at Maidstone as even Dick Turpin wore a mask. Robbing sods were charging £1.52.9 for basic fuel our local Tesco's was £1.32.9). The train left about dead on time 20 minutes late which is normal.

Arriving in Calais it was a very short ride to an edge of town McDonald's for a quick bite to eat before taking the coast road (with great views of the channel but this time not the English coast due to the poor weather) Down through the harbour area of Boulogne and onward to Le Tourquet turning inland to Montreuil-Sur-Mer (I know that sounds daft but Montreuil was a port in Medieval times before its access river silted up).

Day two and a ride out taking us inland to the south and east was arranged we had ten minutes of heavy rain before we were back to overcast skies and occasional drizzle.

Day three and another ride out down the coast via the Edge of Dieppe to Vueles-Les-Roses for Moules et Frites for lunch and some rare sunshine.

Day four and a latish start from the hotel back via the "Chaudron Licquois Cafe Maire" in Liques for a pre-arranged set menu lunch (arranged via Facebook Messenger and Google Translate). Then on to Calais. (Did you know if you look for them you can find hairpin bends in this part of France great fun except for the loose gravel).

Finally back into the UK where the misery began with about 35 miles of average speed cameras on the M20 followed by traffic at the Dartford Crossing followed by the A13, the A127 and the A12 all full of slow traffic (I know I tried them all). Another time we must decide whether to leave France later or earlier to avoid the home time traffic.

My trip meter showed 685 miles for the whole trip we took 17 people on 11 bikes (with two in a car) we managed all the routes using TomTom sat navs, we used the marker system so no one got lost or left behind, we had no breakdowns or punctures and all got ho,me safe and sound. So here's to next May and the trip to wales already being planned.

Update:

Since we returned 5 of us (including a ROSPA advanced motorcyclist and a ROSPA Obsrerver) have received Speed Camera tickets - now this is where it begins to get get tetchy - Some were admittedly doing 91 or 93 KPH in a 80KPH limit so fair do's.

Others however were only doing 83 in an 80 limit. One guy on a large Kawasaki explained that his speedo' needle was wider than 3 KPH on his speedo' dial. So pinching him for 3 kph over was a bit hard to swallow.

It's no more than a tourist tax at €45 a pop - but at least no points. but it's a bit of a dampener since we spent shed loads of money in France on Hotels Food, Petrol and especially beer at €8 a pint to then pinch you for a few K's is a kick in the goolies.

I propose we stop all French cars and lorries that leave Dover or Folkstone without Headlamp converters that should bring in a few quid

I was told that any unpaid fines are sold to English debt collectors - not sure if this is true but..... would be interesting to know if this is right

Didn't wait to find out as the fine goes up if you don't stump up. Apparently we don't reciprocate because of the way we impose fines against the driver rather than the owner of the vehicle.

That is my understanding - gives the Frenchies instant revenue, without any hassle.

No Not even the same day. Ficed cameras that dont show on the Sat Nav (illegal in France) also apparently they don't look like our cameras and are painted Grey - as they all captured our number plates I assume they lloed like this one

My Garmin shows Camera locations in Spain, but calls them “Dangerous Road” in France - automatically switching.
