G'day. R1100R Scrambler starter.
G'day, I'm Dan, and I've jumped into a project without a huge amount of knowledge, if any, except for other bike experience, and I came across you guys and thought you may be able to help in one way or another.
So here we go..
I bought an untouched '94 R1100R with 70,000km, service records, and not a scratch, anywhere, except for a little peeling paint, from a deceased estate. Was in a shed for 6 yrs with a full tank of fuel. Refreshed oil and fuel and battery, starts and runs. Minor stone pitting on forks causing seal leaks. Otherwise good so far.
So I'm all in. Going for a Scrambler rebuild. I want this for occasional trips to work and fun outings with the girl on the back for a day or two.
I live on a property at 700m elevation and my workshop is at sea level, 25 mins winding roads. some of the best around. My driveway is 8km of dirt. On the South Coast of NSW Australia.
I've ordered;
-Full seat and luggage conversion from Unit Garage. Looks great, especially the details around the tank etc.
-Straight through to Silencer Exhaust from some dude in Poland.
-Pirelli Scorpion STR rubber.
-Tank and front guard resprayed Matt Black with a little detail..
-LED headlight and tail lights.
-1200GS ajustable rear shock.
_. _. _.
So while stripping I will either powdercoat or paint rear frame, touch up silver paint, and look at fabricating a headlight mount and front beak mount like the GS.
I'm anticipating retuning the ECU after the pipe and air box work, maybe a onboard mappng kit..
Keen to hear about suspension improvements, and tips.
Any helpful advice appreciated.
Cheers.

Welcome along
From the description of where you are and the roads / dirt drive you want the bike to work on - you should have bought a GS by the sound of it.
Or convert your R with GS bits to suit.
I will be watching this with interest, as Dave says - you may just be the first person to do this.
We are mostly tarmac riders.

Re: G'day. R1100R Scrambler starter.
Hi All, thanks for welcoming me.
Yes I could have bought a GS, though wanted something different, and this became available and was in such good nick.
So it's been very satisfying, and part of the joy of a road based suspension is the tight windy road I ride to my workshop. search Macquarie Pass NSW Australia, also Jamberoo Pass.
The R is on the road now, and feels sweet, eats up the dirt track also which is reassuring.
Hope the pics load up ok. Hope you like it.
And yes I have a small bug screen in the mail, LED Driving lights to fit and still the rear shock to mount. (need to chop the airbox to fit the adjuster).
Cheers,
Dan

Welcome to Boxertrix Daneroo Mate
Bike looks good and I bet she glides over them roads with the telelever front end and no worries on the dirt with the shaft drive either
When you say you've still got the rear shock to mount yet you are clearly riding her, do you mean you have one to replace the original ?
Keep us updated & pics are good

Hey thanks for the feedback!
Yes BoxerCup R I have a BMW/WP 1200 rear shock to go in, should be no problem once the airbox section is out of the way!
Interested to se how the extra 20mm relays to the wheel tack etc. Looking forward to shortening it without adverse affects.
Cheers,
Dan

Hey,
Yea that's nice, but I'm having a go on a budget, and looking for durability not cafe stance.
Re: G'day. R1100R Scrambler starter.
So first issue with the rear suspension mod. After 1996 the lower mount was reversed, female to male basically. Though I am vigilant! Have a very good suspension mob looking at Frankensteining the two, as the 1200 shock is the WP model..
Any info appreciated.

Re: G'day. R1100R Scrambler starter.
That's possibly the best looking R11R I've seen. (I really don't like the after-thought oil-coolers, but they seem 'ok' on that treatment of the bike)
Have you looked at a shorter Paralever arm? (365mm iirc)
Will give you another 10mm or so of ground clearance by 'pulling' the rear wheel down and straightening the final-drive UJ assembly (I run one on my Rockster and it gives a noticeable handling benefit).

Thank you very much.
Yes I was looking at an adjustable one, interested in feeling the shorter wheelbase. Thanks.
Re: G'day. R1100R Scrambler starter.
So the Booster Plug arrived today.. Wow what a simple fix to the idle and acceleration, smooth, controlled, different bike.
