New to me R1100S

Postby KTM AL » Sat Aug 06, 2016 6:11 am

Hello All
Just bought a near mint 03 R1100S (ABS disconnect kit fitted) and I am very happy with it.
The tick over was a bit low so after having a search on this site and watching a link to you tube I balanced the TBs at tick over and 3500rpm,ticks over nicely now as they were both a fair bit out, thought this would have been checked at the services as had quite a few and its only done 6k miles.
Just spent an hour cleaning the down pipes with Brasso ,came up ok :)Image

Nice looking bike - always a pleasing colour-scheme for the 1100s.

Welcome in

Al :D

Best colour scheme in my opinion. Had one myself.
The wheels really stand out even when dirty.
6000 miles is way low !

Getting the hang of it , great at sweepy bends and roundabouts, bit of a clunky gear box and no diving forks ,but that adds to the character of the beast.
Quick question ,how much clearance is there under the cylinder heads when your on the edge of the rear tyre?

As a new comer myself to BMW brigade I've tried to check it out and its plenty, don't be afraid to lie it down it's got little pegs on the footrest that I'm hoping will give me an indication that the barrels are close. As yet we're still ok and the tires show proof I've been trying.
Today I was followed by an angry mob, you know the ones as a presume we've all been there. Anyhow the gang leader past me on the straight just as we aprouched a set of bends I was looking forward to, his second in command had the best view of me shaking my head while sat on his back wheel urging him to get a move on.
Fantastic handling bike but keep it in a higher gear, it makes cornering a delight and get it laid down.

Thanks for that, I was hoping they would touchdown first.
I saw Mr Mamola scraping the carbon covers on his BC back in the day ,but then again I no Randy.
I was impressed with the handling though.
