Lift .... I heard BMW UK were using it as a workshop trainer replacing all the fasteners with wing nuts :)

This time, on top of the 36k service it's having a new radiator, new mainstand, new left pannier body, new ignition switch and new duolever ball joint and recalibration of the recently replaced fuel strip as it's showing reserve at 6 litres not 4 litres. The ball joint is under warranty, the rest is coming out of my depleted finances :)

Very poky Dave, if I'm honest I'd prefer the RS incarnation.

Not keen on the seat as this is the low seat version and forces the rider into one seating position, and have long legs I don't need a lowered seat :)

However, both it and the RS are good bikes with lovely engines and surprisingly slick gearboxes.

The GS retains the telelever of course but being honest the RS has a nice setup too.

This particular GS is loaded with all the gadgets

Steve, if you were having too re-register the K, and were having an age related plate - what year would you plump for as most of the bike has been replaced at some point - has it not ? :D

K44 K12GT's are known for centre stand problems, the arm you press down on with your foot snaps off. The K13GT stand was redesigned to make it stronger, and it no longer snaps the arm off but both are prone to the legs bending.

Ha the mystery is cleared ....

I didn't realise it was a shoddy design failure !!

I was kind of wondering what sort of abuse you were getting up to , to break a stand .

Never saw a Jap bike stand break back in 70s , 80s & 90s .....

I once had to replace a stand on one of my K100RS's due to wearing out the tang from over exhuberant cornering wearing it out :) but apart from that the K12GT has been the only bike I've ever had with an "appetite" for stands :)

Strange that BMW haven't built a better stand ???

Or its just cheaper to replace , and hope the owners get tired and build a stronger one for themselves ....

Recalls

Postby Mitch1100 » Tue Jun 23, 2015 12:28 am

This has been an expensive recall for BMW...prices in AUD without labour added. Looked it up after having mine done.
I remember when I bought my R90 S the battery warranty was 2 years and like clockwork they failed at 20-22 months..never bought a battery for years until they changed the warranty to 12 months!
