PM me your email and I will send you the BMW service instruction. There are other ways to do it which don't involve dropping the unit downwards to drain the oil, but I prefer to follow the BMW method. That way I know all of the old oil is out.

You will need to buy a big syringe, I got one from my ...

Hi all,

Not been on here for quite a while but I've still got my R1200S and am thinking it is time I replaced the final drive oil. Can someone point me in the right direction as to how to go about it please?

Thanks,

Paul :D

I had a test ride on a bonnie, the standard one not the Thruxton, a couple of weeks ago and I loved it. It wasn't quick by any means but it was certainly fast enough and I was impressed by the handling. A most enjoyable hour was spent on the Dorset lanes :)

I want the bike as a 'ride to the pub on ...

Ducati Sport Classic 1000

Anybody got one or had a go on one? I'm rather tempted, I quite fancy something a bit retro. It's either the Ducati or a Triumph Bonnie :D

The end-can change is largely a matter of taste (and cost!), but I'd seriously recommend getting some aftermarket headers that take out the cat. It doesn't necessarily make the bike quicker, but it does make it feel a lot more crisper and responsive.

I'm thinking of changing the headers on my ...

I've not been there, will check it out. TBH I've always just used bikes for transport, rather than leisure/fun. However the S is such good fun to ride I've managed to put 200 miles on it in the first week of ownership...what with this fantastic weather it's just so tempting to take the long way ...

Hi Sussexgirl, I'm along the coast from you in Hampshire :) Have you been along to Bury Hill near Arundel before? There's always a load of bikes there who meet up most evenings/weekends.

James,
I'm so very sorry for your loss. I met your dad on two of the Boxertrix weekends and we really hit it off, he was a lovely bloke. He always used to make me laugh when he referred to your mum as the control tower. Please accept my sincere condolences.

I did a similar trip last year and stayed in a variety of hotels, most of which were less than £40/night. I was on my R1200S so camping wasn't really an option. PB, If you need any recommendations give me a shout :)

Sorry Ian, only just spotted this thread  I'm down in Denmead in Hampshire, not too far from Basingstoke. My R1200S has been tucked away for a while over winter (I've been using my 1150GS), so I can't wait to get out on it soon.

Hi Paul,

Made luck mate. When I read the message I remembered a similar message on the pelican site so you are not alone!

Cheers, dave. Just read the Pelican thread and it does sound similar. Yesterday was the first time I'd started the bike for a couple of months so maybe the battery was low ...

My R1200S is poorly

I took it into Bahnstormers yesterday to have the oil level sensor fixed, which hasn't worked since I got it. At Bahnstormers they've got a glass window where you can see the technicians working on your bike. After waiting there a while I happened to look through and noticed that the service manager ...

I fitted a Hagon monoshock to my old Speed Triple. It was an improvement over the stock shock but not massively better. You definitely get what you pay for and in the future I will always get the best I can afford, Ohlins, WP etc.

I'm using ACF50 on my 1150GS. I went out a couple of times over xmas and the bike got filthy. I couldn't bear putting it away in the garage like that so I jet-washed it and probably removed most of the ACF50 :(
