Re: Wanted first r1200s

Don't be put off by miles - 31k is ok if looked after. Mine has done 52K and runs perfectly - it has a full service history.
Spend a few quid on stainless fasteners, repaint the front cover and it will look very tidy :D

Headers polish up nicely - but will require regular attention...............

Re: Michelin PR3 front tyre feathering / weird handling ??

Just an update - increasing tyre pressure to 36 psi, 2 more turns of preload on the shock and 4 more clicks of damping has reduced the problem massively. New tyre should sort it out completely :D

Re: R12S to GS to XR

Ironic - I am originally from near Edinburgh and it has ended up with me. I bought it from a dealer in Blackpool as you do.... :D Suspension has been serviced ( really needed it!), wheels painted, bodywork is now white & black , zard exhaust etc.... take a look at my blog http://www.ianr1200s.bl...

Re: R12S to GS to XR

I now own your R12S!

It has undergone a complete rebuild over the winter - a sort of HP2 influenced look :D

There is thread on the forum with a link to my blog of the rebuild if you are interested

It's a small world...............

1200S exhaust gasket

I need one exhaust gasket for cylinder head to down pipe joint (blowing slightly) - result of my rebuild polishing session!

Tried Sherlock - supplied ones too small O/D diameter. Motorworks & Motobins also no good.

I assume main dealer time?

Re: Alternator cover paint

I used an etch primer, followed by PJ1 satin black.

Great finish, bakes hard when you run the engine - stinks for the first few rides!

Re: Michelin PR3 front tyre feathering / weird handling ??

Thanks for that - I improved it by running tyres at 36F 39R. 12S is actually heavier on rear as I witnessed when MOTing it - was surprised. Wheel bearings are new, top & bottom "bearings" were very smooth with no play when I checked them during winter rebuild. Tyre is nearly shot, so i...

Michelin PR3 front tyre feathering / weird handling ??

Managed to get out today for 60 miles on my newly rebuilt R1200 - but the front end handling was very strange. The front end really dropped in when I got past a certain angle of lean in tight corners. Good and solid in fast open bends - very planted. But horrible in really tight ones! Steering beari...

Re: My R1200S project so far

Thanks for ebay link , I have also found a set from Italy. Active signs in Minehead might be able to make me some. Splash of red would work. I agree it needs a little "extra" - but will use it and slowly let it evolve. Seat has been recovered by Saxon Seats - previous owner. Where can I ge...

Re: My R1200S project so far

Dave - I think you have a thing about headers going brown ?? :)

I am a bit of a polisher so will keep on top of it - hopefully, maybe, perhaps................ :|
