Re earlier post
Just back from my first decent run since the repair: Jeez, it's completely *transformed* the R1100S. I guess over time you just compensate for iffy running and don't notice a gradual decline, but the difference is astonishing - particularly in stop/go town traffic which had become a clutch-lever-bac...

With one bound, Jack was free...
Got the diagnosis on Brünhilde this morning: All the symptoms were of a trashed driveshaft/UJs - which is of course a *horribly* pricey job. I was getting serious clonking in the drive train and it just wasn't running right; however - for once - I seem to have rescued victory from the jaws of defeat...

Black Shadow
To be honest, don't know. It's obviously now a permanent fixture (pic not too good because they've sealed it in a glass case to stop the likes of me running our sticky fingers over it); £35k restoration costs would suggest a figure considerably in excess of that for a retail price, but on the other ...

Took recently-widowed mate for mood-boost trip to the fair city of Excreta to wallow in bike porn at Bridge Motors: Bee-YOO-tiful '53 Black Shadow as pretty as when it was first wheeled out from the factory. £35k restoration costs mentioned but if I had the money in the piggy-bank I would have parte...

LOL - actually I was reduced to using an MP3 player stuffed with ancient episodes of The Navy Lark, I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again and Round the Horne. It'll be good to have John Humphries back on my morning trips into work...

RFI interference cured
Eventually (took two months) my clip-on ferrite filters turned up from China: once the RH fairing was off, it was a 1-minute job to place them on both power and earth return leads close by the ballast. Now 99% of the radio interference has been removed. If anyone else needs to cure this issue, you r...

Headlight Protector
When I found out how much a replacement headlight lens was (and considering that Bude is the flung gravel capital of the UK), I decided to buy a clear plastic protector for the bike. It came with 'heavy duty Velcro' securing pads: Only problem is that they don't stick to the bloody glass... A five-m...

Providing She Who Must Be Obeyed hasn't got me lashed to a wheelbarrow or a paintbrush, I'll be there. (Buggrit, that means I'll have to give Brünhilda a clean).

Riding ability
Started schoolboy scrambling in 62 or 63 - I think this greatly helped with balance and general feel for mechanised progress. Driving cars since 1970. Huge mileages over the years (56,000 business miles in 1990 alone). I think it's all about hazard perception - the more experienced you become, the f...

I contacted Chris Bartram - a mate of mine who is a professional high-end RF engineer for a steer on this issue: see below Hi Chris; quick query. I recently installed a dipped-beam HID light on my motorbike (probably the best mod I've ever done to a bike - amazing difference from the standard halog...
