So, took the day off on one of the hottest days of the year to ride over to Cadwell

The heat was brutal on the 19th. And, mind me, I'm Italian... I should be used to that sort of temperatures. :D

If it's any consolation the R1100RS suffers exactly the same issue.

Boxercup was the opposite, due to different height.
Had the bike almost tip over (on the sidestand side) a couple of times when traveling with heavy panniers.

However , when the road is clear , the belly pan hits the ground .

Assuming the bellypan is mounted in the same position as the ones on the Boxercups... how are your shocks?

On my R1150R... when the shocks were on their way out (about 50k km) I used to touch with the bottom of the bike, when ...

hmmmmm - tempted, one of mine is a bit scratched...

I'd rather buy a bike that has been regularly used (even not much) over something that has been sitting that long. And I've done it.

mate has suggested to bung it on a dyno, that way will see what horses it has and if the cut out is that low on all gears......

To what gain? Just to lose some money to the dyno guy?

Double checked anyway (I have it on video) as nab said: 8200rpm.

As said above, it should cut at higher RPMs.

I had quite a few boxers now, I think I've got to the rev limiter maybe 4/5 times in the last 10 years probably. And most times, by error.

but read 50,000km service stipulates changing the conrod bearings and piston,and head gasket??

Depends on how the bike has been used.

1) screeching sound could be a starter motor than needs cleaning/greasing as it stays engaged a bit longer than needed.

Completely agree.
But what surprised me is that I'm used to have more mass over the front end of my 1200GSA that properly isn't a sportsbike and it's not even trying to be :wink:

I briefly considered switching from the GSA to the XR, but, various considerations/excuses/lies to myself in no particular order:
- not really a point, but, as said, seems like I can get the GS turn onto itself in traffic, not the same with the XR. That is a massive plus for me considering I have to ...

By comparison getting back on the GSA felt like riding an armchair, comfortable and easy to ride with good visibility.

It's a motorsport livery (less of them) plus the slipper clutch, etc... the price is still high IMHO, but I've seen worse.

I think the final word from BMW on the 30k overhaul - is that the extent of the work depends upon the usage ...
