Well, I still don't have a clue what caused the problem. As suggested I took off the tank panels and twisted and wiggled wires while the engine was running (including the ones under the iginition barrel) - couldn't get it to cut out. In the end I stuck a bottle of STP fuel system cleaner in the tank ...

haven't fixed it yet - just back from a couple of weeks vacation in western oz - am just about to hit the garage now...

it's 2001 R1100SS single spark with remus y piece - regularly serviced - 25,000 miles - oil, spark plugs, oil filter and air filter changed in the last 1000 miles, valves adjusted last week. the only thing i haven't had seen to is the fuel filter - could this possibly be the cause?

yesterday morning riding through london the bike suddenly cut out - when i hit the starter button it turned over but wouldn't start. after about a minute it started again as if nothing had happened and ran fine. all was well until my journey home tonight when the same thing happened about 5 times ...
