thanks all. The bike had protectors fitted when I bought it, guess they'll do for now.

I've just had a couple of quotes for PR2s, dealer £265 + vat (£311), and a tyre specialist £238 incl vat, valves and balance (and disposal), Quite a difference.

Waiting in a traffic queue today, a GSer pulled up alongside. He suggested crash bars would be a good idea in case I dropped it.

It did get me thinking, can the cylinders take it, or do they get wiped off/crack the crankcase etc.

What does experience show?

My first bike was a D7 Bantam, tought myself to ride on it in the days when you could.
I even spray-canned it black and silver fade like an R90S

Well, today I did the deed, and bought this one:

I rode it 150 miles home through rain and hail showers without stopping, apart from fill ups either end, so must have been enjoying myself. I think this is going to be fun
